Coconut palms are very plentiful in many parts of the Philippines. They grace parks, forests, and townships with their beautiful leaves and high foliage. Not only are they elegant looking, they are very valuable as a source of shade and for the fact that they hold the soil in place on hillsides etc. They also provide coconuts which have many uses in the native culture.
The Filipino people are very resourceful and very little is wasted, but the shells of coconuts are often burned for lack of a better use. These crafts utilize the shells in a beautiful way and offer more of a return to the craftsmen who prepare them. |
